Chesapeake Bay Atmospheric Deposition Study Final Report 1996

The primary objective of the CBADS network was to provide the best possible estimates of total, annual atmospheric loadings of a variety of trace elements and organic contaminants directly to the surface waters of the Chesapeake Bay.  Accurate estimates of baywide annual loadings required that we characterize the spatial and temporal variability in contaminant inventories in the atmosphere and iin depositional fluxes to the bay.  Based on previous studies of wet deposition in the region (e.g., Tyler, 1988) and given the resources availablefor the network, we selected three non-urban shoreline locations for sampling sites.  In our sites more than 50 kilometers from metropolitan areaas.  By minimizing possible urban influences, we insured that the resulting loading estiamtes are minimum values.
