American Eel Fishery Management Plan

Published: January 01, 1991

Fact Sheet: In 1987, signatories from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, the U.S. EPA, and the Chesapeake Bay Commission pledged to initiate management plans for commercially, recreationally, and ecologically valuable species. The American eel (Anquilla rostrata) was selected as one of the important species and a fishery management plan devised for the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries so that harvest does not exceed the capacity of the population to maintain its stock size from year to year
