Cownose Rays in the Chesapeake Bay: What do we know?
This report summarizes the research, discussion and recommendations from an October 2015 workshop on cownose rays in the Chesapeake Bay.
Description
On October 22, 2015, the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Sustainable Fisheries Goal Implementation Team hosted a scientific workshop on cownose rays in the Chesapeake Bay. The workshop was designed to:
- Characterize what is known about the life history and population dynamics of cownose rays in the Chesapeake Bay, as well as fishing effort and ecosystem interactions; and
- Identify a mechanism to determine the stock status of Atlantic cownose rays (Rhinoptera bonasus) in the Chesapeake Bay to inform future fishery management.
