Description

In 2015-2016, two technical memos were developed by the Toxic Contaminant Workgroup to evaluate whether best management practices (BMPs) used to reduce nutrient and sediment loads for the Bay pollution diet might also offer additional benefits to reduce toxic contaminants. The results of this one-year research synthesis are summarized in two technical memos linked below.

In 2018, the Chesapeake Bay Program developed resources to encourage consideration of the benefits of Best Management Practices (BMPs) that extend beyond nutrient and sediment load reductions in the development and implementation of their Phase III Watershed Implementation Plans (WIPs). A Fact Sheet for Toxic Contaminant Co-benefits was created as a part of this effort.
