Description

In 2015-2016, the Toxic Contaminants Workgroup conducted a research synthesis to evaluate whether best management practices (BMPs) used to reduce nutrient and sediment loads to the Chesapeake Bay might also offer benefits to reduce toxic contaminants. The results of this research synthesis are summarized in two technical memos:

In 2018, the Chesapeake Bay Program developed resources to encourage jurisdictions to consider the benefits of BMPs that extend beyond nutrient and sediment load reductions in the development and implementation of their Phase III Watershed Implementation Plans (WIPs). These resources include a Toxic Contaminants: Principles for Phase III Watershed Implementation Plans Fact Sheet.
