Purpose
The 2013 Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Summit will be held on December 2nd and 3rd at the Westin Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Annapolis, Maryland. This meeting will be an important dialogue between federal, state, and non-governmental leaders about how federal, state, and local partners can be more effective and efficient at developing and implementing environmental literacy programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. This year's Summit will explore how environmental literacy can be achieved using existing and emerging standards & practices while better connecting and aligning federal programs and grantees with state priorities. From the federal government, to state governments, to non-profit and business partners, the Mid-Atlantic is leading the nation in implementing sound policy that ensures that our students graduate environmentally literate. The biennial Summits are an opportunity to showcase successes and engage in meaningful dialogue about the status and future of environmental education to allow us to move forward together. The Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Summit – Day 2 Working Session (December 3rd) is will encourage participants to reflect on the information from the first day of the Summit to develop strategies to advance the Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Strategy. Specifically, participants will be focused on the finalization of regional best practices in the area of student outdoor experiences, teacher professional development, and green schools; the refinement of regional metrics for the meaningful watershed educational experience; and 2014-2015 action items for the Mid Atlantic Education Workgroup. Due to budget constraints, participation in this Summit is by invitation only.
