SAV workgroup meeting
This meeting is open to the public. Unless otherwise noted, it may be recorded for internal use.
Date and Time
Thursday, August 3, 2000 from 10:00am - 11:00am
Purpose
Announcements: The SAV workgroup has changed its name to the Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Task Group under the Tidal Habitat Workgroup. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's SAV guide has gone to the printers. Commercial clammers are intentionally dredging in protected areas in several counties in what may be an effort to challenge the ban on clamming in "SAV Protection Areas." They are clamming in areas that don't contain SAV currently, but did in 1997-1999 when the protection areas were created (SAV clam dredging law is used primarily 1997 data). The Bill was to have been amended this year to use running averages instead of single year changes, but didn't come up for vote. The upcoming 1999 SAV Report will be web-based, and when released sometime in the next few months, can be accessed through the following web site: http://www.vims.edu/bio/sav/index.html. The new web-based version is designed for navigation and easy access of information in the web environment. It is not designed as a printed document and therefore cannot simply be printed out. A hard copy will be made available for those unable to access the web-version. For more information contact Jamie Fishman at VIMS. Portions of the 2000 aerial survey flights have been delayed due to bad weather but there is enough time left in the growing season that, given an improvement in the weather, it should be completed on time.Related Files:
