Date and Time
Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 3:56pm - 4:56pm
Purpose
Wetland Workgroup meeting on Wednesday, May 29, from 10:30 – 12:45 in the Fish Shack at the Chesapeake Bay Program office in Annapolis. This is an important meeting which will focus on key issues related to wetland restoration. We have been asked to prepare a standard protocol for verifying the restoration or creation of wetlands that are being reported to the Chesapeake Bay Program as BMPs for nutrient and/or sediment removal credit. The current draft is attached. It has been a challenge to prepare this protocol due to lack of response to earlier drafts, as well as the varied approaches used by practitioners to meet their own programmatic needs. The Program is requesting a final protocol from the Work Group by July and your input is critical. Another topic related to restoration is permitting. The challenges of restoration permitting was the focus of the Habitat Goal Implementation Team held at Cacapon State Park in November 2012. We will be providing updates on the status of actions and recommendations made during the meeting. The final major topic is wetland rehabilitation. These are practices which "restore" previously existing functions in a degraded wetland. The practices are not presently part of the Bay model for nutrient reduction. We will have an opportunity to encourage inclusion of these practices in the next version of the model, but will have to provide documentation for reductions.Location
