Directive No. 93-4: Fish Passage Goals
This directive commits the Chesapeake Bay Program to a ten-year target of opening 1,356.75 miles of fish spawning habitat along major Chesapeake Bay tributaries.
Description
Directive No. 93-4 recognizes the importance of fish passage in restoring spawning habitat to migratory fish in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and adopts the Fish Passage Goals Policy in accordance with the Fish Passage Strategy adopted by the Chesapeake Executive Council in January of 1989. The Fish Passage Strategy states that all jurisdictions of the Chesapeake Bay watershed will "provide for fish passage at dams, and remove stream blockages whenever necessary to restore natural passage for migratory fish."
