Directive 98-1: Chesapeake Bay Program Education Initiative
This directive commits the Chesapeake Bay Program to engaging state Departments of Education, supporting interagency education groups in each Chesapeake Bay jurisdiction, convening biennial Education Summits, and reorganizing the Bay Program’s Communications Subcommittee to coordinate education and communications efforts.

Description
Directive No. 98-1 acknowledges the Chesapeake Bay Program's responsibility to ensure that students across the Chesapeake Bay watershed receive the knowledge and understanding necessary for them to make informed and intelligent decisions relative to their own actions and the actions of others who affect the Bay. The directive commits the Chesapeake Bay Program to inviting the Departments of Education in each Chesapeake Bay jurisdiction to become more active partners in the Bay Program; support an existing or newly-created interagency education group in each jurisdiction; convene an Education Summit of the four interagency education groups in 1999 and every two years thereafter; and reorganize the Bay Program's Communications Subcommittee into the Communications and Education Subcommittee and charge the subcommittee with coordinating these commitments.
