BMP Panel Report for Shoreline Management (Amended)
This report provides protocols to estimate the nutrient and sediment pollutant load reduction associated with different shoreline management practices.
Description
Currently, states and local jurisdictions claim minimal nutrient and sediment reduction for shoreline projects, as no one has systematically reviewed the available science to determine the appropriate “credit” for these practices. The Expert Panel on Shoreline Management reviewed the science and developed protocols to estimate the sediment and nutrient pollutant load reduction associated with different shoreline management practices. This will enable Chesapeake Bay states to use shoreline management practices as part of an overall watershed strategy to meet nutrient and sediment load reduction targets for existing urban development under the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL).
This report was accepted by the Urban Stormwater Workgroup on April 15, 2014; approved by the Watershed Technical Workgroup on February 13, 2015; approved by the Water Quality Goal Implementation Team on July 13, 2015; amended by the WTWG and WQGIT in June 2017; and further amended in November 2019.
