Trends in Nitrogen in the Chesapeake Bay (1984-1990) 1992

This report shows average monthly concentrations of nitrogen were essentially unchanged in the entire mainstem of the Chesapeake Bay from October 1984 to September 1990. Total nitrogen levels showed an apparent increase of 2%, and dissolved inorganic nitrogen levels showed an apparent decrease of 2% baywide during the six-year period. Given the inherent variability in Chesapeake Bay nitrogen levels, a 2% apparent change over six years (0.3% per year) is not considered a trend.
