Financing and Funding Tidal Wetlands Strategic Plan Implementation
CompleteThis project was completed as part of the development of a Tidal Wetlands Strategic Plan, and involved identifying new and innovative financing and funding sources for strategic plan implementation.
Description
This project was designed to identify new and innovative financing and funding sources that can be used to pay for tidal wetland restoration in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia. The work included:
- Researching the viability of blue carbon crediting;
- Collating an inventory of funding and financing sources;
- Identifying the most innovative sources that would be most appropriate for tidal wetland restoration in the Bay region;
- Finding examples of how various funding and financing sources have been leveraged both for tidal wetlands and for other restoration projects; and
- Suggesting next steps for Bay jurisdictions to pursue.
The report synthesizes findings and recommendations from research conducted by the Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) under contract with the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The spreadsheet includes funding mechanisms for the execution of the Tidal Wetlands Strategic Plan.
