Qian is employed by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and works within the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP)’s Scientific, Technical Assessment and Reporting (STAR) team. His main responsibility is to explore the natural and anthropogenic causes behind the observed current status and long-term trends in the water quality of Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering from the Johns Hopkins University (JHU). He also holds two master’s degrees from JHU, one in environmental engineering and the other in statistics. He currently lives in Maryland with his wife and two sons.
