Chesapeake Bay Program Education Workgroup Full Membership Meeting

    Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 12:30pm - 3:30pm
A big goal for the Education Workgroup and Chesapeake Bay Program as a whole is to increase opportunities for DEIJ in their work around MWEE implementation. The Summer 2019 Chesapeake Bay Program Full Education Workgroup Meeting identified ways that each state and the workgroup as a whole could batter integrate DEIJ into their work. Members of the Diversity Workgroup presented some of the key features from the EJ Screening Tool map that showed potential demographic areas that may serve as areas of focus as we think about MWEE implementation and heard from other workgroup members on the latest MWEE training and professional development opportunities where jurisdictions need support.

The Summit will explore systemic environmental education and how it can drive diversity, equity and inclusion. Summit participants will share successful models and have the opportunity to share both challenges and successes encountered when implementing these models on a large scale. Formal and informal discussions will identify strategies that may work within a jurisdiction to provide equitable environmental instruction for all students. All participants will be engaged in identifying specific next step actions by jurisdiction to implement as follow-up to the Summit.

    2013 Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Summit

Monday, December 2, 2013 (all day)
The 2013 Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Summit will be held on December 2nd and 3rd at the Westin Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Annapolis, Maryland. This meeting will be an important dialogue between federal, state, and non-governmental leaders about how federal, state, and local partners can be more effective and efficient at developing and implementing environmental literacy programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. This year's Summit will explore how environmental literacy can be achieved using existing and emerging standards & practices while better connecting and aligning federal programs and grantees with state priorities. From the federal government, to state governments, to non-profit and business partners, the Mid-Atlantic is leading the nation in implementing sound policy that ensures that our students graduate environmentally literate. The biennial Summits are an opportunity to showcase successes and engage in meaningful dialogue about the status and future of environmental education to allow us to move forward together. The Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Summit – Day 2 Working Session (December 3rd) is will encourage participants to reflect on the information from the first day of the Summit to develop strategies to advance the Mid-Atlantic Environmental Literacy Strategy. Specifically, participants will be focused on the finalization of regional best practices in the area of student outdoor experiences, teacher professional development, and green schools; the refinement of regional metrics for the meaningful watershed educational experience; and 2014-2015 action items for the Mid Atlantic Education Workgroup. Due to budget constraints, participation in this Summit is by invitation only. The goal of the retreat is to discuss the current status of regional environmental education commitments and review and develop a draft regional tracking system to monitor progress toward state and regional goals. We believe this is an important, perhaps unprecedented moment in our regional work to advance environmental education and our intent is to provide an informal and open atmosphere that allows for the exchange of ideas and actions that are grounded in reality but also forge new ground toward our regional goals. The results of our efforts of this retreat will set the stage for discussion and next steps at the December 2-3 Regional Environmental Literacy Summit at the Westin Hotel in Annapolis, MD.
